How to Tell If Your Dog Has Parasites?

Parasites are a major concern for pet owners because they can cause significant harm to dogs. Want to know if your dog has parasites? Check these four things:

Stool Health

Examine your dog's poop. If it's yellow or brown, without a foul odor, and has a moderate hardness, your dog is likely healthy. However, if the stool is soft, smelly, and contains white worm-like structures, it's a sign that your dog has a high number of internal parasites, and deworming is necessary.
Fur Inspection

When brushing your dog, pay attention to the roots of their fur. Look for noticeable black spots. Place these spots in water to see if they turn red. If they dissolve into a red color, it's flea excrement, indicating that your dog has parasites. The more black spots, the more parasites there are.
Dandruff

You can also tell if your dog has parasites by checking their dandruff. If your dog's fur and roots have a lot of dandruff that shakes off easily, it could be parasite excrement. If there's a lot of dandruff, consider deworming your dog.
Ear Odor

If your dog's ears emit a foul odor, it indicates that their ears are very dirty and likely infested with ear mites. Dog ears are a moist environment, making them a breeding ground for bacteria. If your dog's ears smell bad, it's time for a thorough cleaning to prevent ear mites.
